BlogHer 2009 will be in …

Friday, 8 August 2008 Comments »

In July 2009 I'm either going to be in St. Louis, Portland, or Philadelphia! Are you going to join me?

Remember the poll? Well the votes were tallied and these were the top three. Now they're going to investigate all three cities to see where they can get a good venue for the dates and so on.

Personally, I hope it's in St. Louis because I've never been to Missouri. Where do you hope they have it?

ST LOUIS! If only for the all the Judy Garland inspired blog posts there'll be about it!

    Annie,

Agreed! I've had that song stuck in my head ever since I read the announcement!

Although I can never type 'louis' or 'missouri' correctly the first time. My cross to bear…

  • Busy Mom said:

    St. Louis, please.

  • Maria said:

    One word: Cheesesteaks.

I'm a fat ass, and I like food. So Philly.

Maria's latest post: I’m in dire need of your assistance.

  • Erika Jurney (author) said:

Maria, Philly and Portland would also be fine, but I've been to both before. I want to go some place new!! (But yeah, cheesesteaks… yum.) Philly is my second choice. Portland is only last because I've got family there so I've been a frillion times.

  • Lala said:

Sorry, I voted for Philly - closest to Eastern Canada = cheapest flight, or so I think. Plus I get to see Menita, Cecily and Sarah.

was hoping for NYC…but i'll take Philly. :)

Hey, I wanted NYC too! It would have been a great excuse to go there! I haven't been in probably 20 years.

  • liv said:

not portland. i can't do the west coast haul again. philly, please. at least i could stay with friends.

Ughh the South looses again. Sigh…

I've been in Philly in the summer and it's no less hot or muggy than Atlanta… but add old and dirty.(Sorry Philly folks just calling it like I saw it)

And Portland well that couldn't be farther away making it impossible.

St Louis is sounding like preferred choice at this point.

I voted for Philadelphia. I like the East coast, though St. Louis would be closer. Wherever it is, I'll be there.

  • catnip said:

Philly got my vote because not only have I never been there but it's the closest to home for me so I would be able to afford it. St. Louis would be my 2nd choice. Portland would be about as impossible as SF was.

  • TSM said:

Living just like 40 minutes away from Portland, I would prefer, oh, I don't know…PORTLAND!!

  • Erika Jurney (author) said:

Yeah, it took me about that long to drive to San Francisco this year, so I understand the appeal. On the downside, it cost almost as much as a plane ticket to park my car, so it wasn't as much of a money-saver as I thought!

  • the ex said:

Oh man, St. Louis sucks hardcore. I am so not excited for it to be there. Philadelphia has horrendous summers.

So, Portland? Yes please! Portland is gorgeous.

I'd love to attend and if it's in Philly, I'd love that because I used to go there all the time!!!

Of course, I do have a friend in Portland, so I'd havea free palce to stay.

Who am I kidding? I won't be able to afford the trip next year.

  • VDog said:

    I would like:

    1. Portland - closest and hey! we could organize a road trip to get there. or just meet up at the airport. lol. Also? NO SALES TAX!!

    2. St Louis - never been and this way nobody has to fly cross-country.

    3. Philly - faaaar away, but yeah, cheesesteaks *might* lure me in, but only if they have a chicken version. (sacrilege, right?)

I was going to say St. Louis, so that you and I could hang with our friend Kristina from Momformation and also because it's a central location and I can drive there. Then you mentioned the expsenive hotel parking in SF. Maybe flying isn't such a bad thing after all. I have fond memories of Portland, but I do think it's time to head east, not west again.

My list: St. Louis, Philly and Portland last.

I'm hoping for St. Louis. The cost of the trip in general, plus the conference is a huge issue for me, so having BlogHer practically in my backyard would be awesome.

If it were Portland, then I'd take it as a sign that I'd have to go. (driveable)

As for St. Louis in summer, I can only say….ick. Hot and humid, people.

Of those, Philly. Philly is a great city (and only 5 hours away).

St. Louis & Philly are the exact same distance away from me. I've never been to either, but I've been meaning to go to STL, so that's my vote.

Portland- hands down. Unless you love hot, 100% humidity that makes breathing impossible outside, muggy, and did I mention 100% humidity? You wouldn't want to be anywhere near St. Louis or Philly in the summertime.

I hope it is in Portland. How could it NOT be?

About the only way anyone would ever see me at a BlogHer conference would be if it was in the Portland metro area. HOWEVER - this does not mean that I am rooting for it to take place here, because then I would have to actually agonize over whether or not to go. And this is because I dislike crowds, am poor, and am afraid I couldn't live up to my own press. ;)

I hope it's in St. Louis because it's an easy day trip for me. My second choice would be Portland because I've heard it's gorgeous there. On the other hand, if it's in Philadelphia, that would give me a chance to go to the Mutter Museum. I guess I'd be happy with any of them!

Philly is only about 90 minutes from me so that would be convenient. But because this would be my first Blogher, I think I might want to travel somewhere I've never been. I'm thinking St. Louis. Though Portland sounds the best, it would be an expense like San Francisco, so I don't know if I could swing it. So, I'm saying St. Louis!

If Taos, NM is ever an option, I might go again. ;)

I've been to St Louis and Philly and Philly is by far more fun. And I could easily drive there, and if Eden went, I would feel compelled to go and stalk her.

First, I should probably actually blog something again though.

While I'd love to go to Portland, it's all the way over there! The fair thing to do would have the conference either on the east coast next time or at least in the middle. Philly would be drive-able for me, so I guess I vote Philly (as if I have a say).

I'll DEFINITELY go if it's in St. Louis, I've wanted to see it since Mary Engelbreit started her magazine with all the great pics of tag sales and scenery etc.

i just got back from st louis 3 hours ago and although it is a lovely city with lots to see and do i am going to go with philadelphia. at least that way i can get an actual real live direct flight…imagine that!
i'm planning on going either way as long as it isn't in and around july 20th which is a big fat hairy deal here under the big top as my darling husband reminded me. it's either that or bring him and i am trying to remind him just how much he enjoyed an entire's day focused on women in the travel industry at the convention we attended….he swears he could feel himself lactating. Portland, without a doubt.

I'm going regardless, but I'll definitely give Portland's summer weather a big thumbs up over Philly or St. Louis. That said, if we keep the whole she-bang inside a hotel, it won't really matter.

Kim, I don't know if you're checking these comments but if BlogHER is in STL, drive down and park your car at my house and we can go down together — or we can have my DH haul us in my minivan and skip the parking fees altogether.

For who ever said that STL sucks, it really doesn't. It's quite charming and pretty and there are a ton of great restaurants, especially if you like Italian food. Most of all, it's affordable.

I am crossing my fingers so hard for Portland lol

(yeah I know that it's now been a month since the last post, I couldn't help myself. I got so excited when I saw Portland on the list. I'm terrified they'll say "JUST KIDDING! We meant Portland, MAINE!" lol)
