It’s an obsession, really. Leptospermum scoparium and me. I will be overrun.
Our weekends of late have been filled with yard work and more yard work, and we’ve made good headway so far. We’ve gotten all of the planting done that we wanted to do this spring and our yard looks like much less of a wasteland.
I survey our work and one thing has become clear to me: I have a new plant obsession, and its name is Leptospermum scoparium (also known as New Zealand Tea Tree, among other names). Mr. Plain and I fell in love with this gorgeous plant while scouring plant nurseries in late winter.

Before we had kids I really enjoyed gardening, but after kids the only thing I had the mental energy to grow was babies. This is the first year where I have given a damn about the plants in our yard, and it is so great to be back!
They come in other colors like white and pink — we have them all — and here’s another of my favorites:

But you’ll have to excuse me now as I need to get outside and stick the new one in some dirt. I found the perfect ultra-dark brown pot hiding next to the house!

I could use a little gardening knowledge!! It’s safe to say that I’m not a green thumb!
I’m so glad to see Plain Jane enjoying Leptospermum. I’ve been searching the web to try to find out if it is messy. I see it in the neighborhood so I know it is good fit for my yard, but I want to plant it in a long 2 foot planter near our pool. Will I regret that based on roots and or shedding? I’d love some input. I’m in Sunset zone 23. Katie
It looks beautiful! I have 8 plants I bought the other day just waiting to be put into their new homes. Don’t know where I’ll find the motivation though because I am not just gardening - I have landscaping to do as well.
I love yours though! I’ll just live vicariously through your gardening. LOL
This New Zealand tea tree doesn’t look so impressive on the second picture but when I saw the third, boy! They’re sooo pretty :)
And you don’t need to arrange them a lot, do you? :)
